Chocolate Marshmallow Cake

Mmmmm.  When I was a kid, any school function that I had to bring a treat to, I ALWAYS choose Chocolate Marshmallow Cake.  Mom made this for me year after year.  I loved it.  I still love it.

So when Braydon announced that he wanted to bring something to his last day of pre-school, I though immediately of Chocolate Marshmallow Cake.  Mom send me all the how to's, and last night the kids and I embarked on our inaugural special school function cake.

I gotta say, it's just as good at 36 as it was at 6.  MMMmmm

I got tagged

My friend Tracey tagged me.  And while I'm supposed to tag six other people, well only a few check this out and she already tagged them.  So with the promise that I will tag others later, I will answer her tag on me.

I need to tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about myself.

1- I did two rounds of dished tonight.....well the dishwasher did anyhow
2-Everytime I think my printer has died, my husband saves it and me
3-I will be attempting the first draft of chocolate marshmallow cake on Tuesday night.  This was the one treat that my Mom always made me for school, and I offered to make it for Braydon for his last day of pre-school
4-I am finding it challenging to come up with six things about me
5- I thought my last knee surgery was more painful than labour
6- I undercooked the roast beef tonight.

Music To our Ears

On Friday night, the new Village in the Valley is hosting free concerts through the summer.  Without ball this Friday, we headed down to enjoy some cajun influenced music with our friends.  It was warm out and a perfect night to enjoy some music.

Braydon also ran into a school buddy, and with the five kids, they kept us entertained with their version of dancing, and lots of running around.  The night was a lot of fun (except for the one boo boo, but Daddy came to the rescue) and I'm hoping we can do it again next week.

The Anniversary Date Night

Usually we go for dinner - to either the Boathouse or the Keg.  Both I love.  But this year, we decided to dinner in.  With my vacation and his bike - we figured we could still do a nice dinner in, and save a bunch of money.

So, the kids went to my parents and we hung out at home.  Both of us easily could have done our own thing - me scrap, him play poker.  But we knew that wasn't what the night was about.  At 5:30, just as if we were going out - we poured a drink and got dinner ready.  I started with stuffed mushroom caps, but apparently Chris didn't want any.  Then we had salmon stuffed with herbs, cream cheese and shrimp, scallops wrapped in bacon, new potatoes, asparagus and baby carrots. Mmmm.

After dinner, we dug out the crib board.  First game I got skunked.  Then I won the next two games (unusual for me).  He won the final won.

It was a fun night, both of us were in silly moods - and he let me take a ton of pics (unusual for him).  So a night in is just as fun as a night out.  And after seven years of marriage, we still have a great time together.

Scrapping Dog

Um... this is what I found when I came downstairs.  My 110lb wolf dog on our glass table.

I'm thinking it's pretty funny, but I don't think Chris will laugh as much.  Do you think she just wanted to scrap with me??

7 Years Strong

Today Chris and I celebrate seven years of marriage.  What are we doing?  Well, he's at motorcycle school and I'm about to take the kids out for a walk.  But in reality - that's why we have a good marriage, it's about give and take.  This is a course he really wants to do - and I don't mind postponing our night out.  We decided we could spend our quality time on Saturday together.

I love this man.  For all the the things that drive me crazy, there are more things I have that I love about him.  We are opposites, but that's what gives us something to talk about each day.  We tick each other off sometimes, but always kiss goodnight  and say we love each other.  In days where marriages seem to fail, mine is as strong as ever.  I'm lucky, he's lucky - we are lucky (and happy) together.  For what started out as friends has grown into so much more.  Lucky #7 I say.  Happy Anniversary Chris, I love you.

Lay Out of the Day

I was introduced to this new scrapbooking web site by Tracey - called CompuPro.  Wasn't really looking to stay and play - but the talent there is  great.  There is lots of chatter and everyone seems friendly.  There seem to be a lot of east coast, and I think that the web was spawned from a local store that many seem to have visited.  But it seems to have tons of potential and has already inspired me to do some of my fav LOs this year.

This Lay Out was chosen as the Lay Out of the Day - which made me so happy.  It was done for a challenge, to make scalloped edges with my scissors.  Since I don't have any scalloping tools, I only do scalloped edges with them - so at least I knew what I was doing.

I feel like I'm cheating a bit on the other site - but after months of things dribbling along there - it's still not what it used to be.  I'm not giving up - but it was nice to see tons of comments on my work, and to see lots of different styles and talents on the boards without it being overwhelming.

So for now, I will enjoying playing and see where it takes me.

Summer Treats

Mother Nature has decided to be kind to us for awhile.  Today was perfect weather, and how better to end a good day?  Of course with an ice cream cone.  And if you have smarties on hand, well throw a few of those in and it becomes the best ice cream cone ever.

A Tea Party

Last night we started a new tradition.  The Tea Party.  The boys had planned to go to the BC Lions Football game, so I wanted to do something special with Kaylee.  So Jen and I threw a tea party for the girls.

We all dressed up (Kaylee and Rachel were extra cute) in our bestest outfits, donned some hats and extra jewelry, had cookies, cakes and strawberries and headed off to Jen's place.

The places were set with mini plates and proper name tags.  The girls were very polite and our tea party was one of  our best nights out.
We liked it so much that we've decided to make it a tradition.  And when the girls get a bit older - we will go to the Empress Hotel in Victoria and have high tea.  I can't wait.

O Canada

Happy Birthday Canada!!

I love being Canadian - but today for the kids, the most important part of the day, the Parade!

It was the annual Canada Day parade, and this year we went with friends.  It was a warm day - but there was enough of a breeze so it was a nice day.

Summer Cut

Whew, it's hot outside.  So what better to keep a little boy cool???  A haircut like Dad's.  I think it's too short, but hey - it will grow back.  And Braydon loves it, and he's nice and cool.  It shows off the last of his bump and best of all.....those baby blues.
